Is the world going to come to a violent end in 2012 as is thought to have been predicted in prophesy? unfortunately this may indeed be so or at least a catastrophic even that will ultimately change the world and the way we live, but I personally do not believe it will be total annihilation or anywhere near it.

However, Nostradamus, The Mayans, The Hopi Indians, St Malachy, Mother Shipton of old, The Ancient Egyptian "Big book", The Chinese oracle of the I Ching, The Holy Bible (loosely suggested in Revelation), The Ancient Roman Oracle Sybil, Merlin-Myrddin and a whole host of other ancient prophets, seers  and indeed scientists such as Albert Einstein, Terrence Mckenna, and Edgar Cayce all do suggest that the time on or around December 21st 2012 as a time of some great significant occurrence, an occurence that will effect everyone on the planet.

Or are all these notable, intelligent people totally wrong and absolutely nothing will happen at all ? because for nothing to happen at all is the only other synopsis, don't forget that many people  in the past have predicted the end of the world, up to the year 2000 and obviously, all have been wrong.  I particularly remember when the year 2000 ( Y2K-Bug ) was predicted to yield a worldwide catastrophe and yet...absolutely nothing at all happened.

However, it is of no coincidence that all of these prophesies, systems and writings, from all the notables above (apart from the chimp!) have not mentioned anything beyond 2012 at all...but this does not mean the world is going to blow up.

The Mayan astrological calendar was fantastically and exactly precise, even more so than the one we have today and it ends on December 21st 2012.  Because...as is accurately thought...this is the day that the solar systems planets converge and now renders their "old" calendar as obsolete.  The Mayans truly lived with their heads in the clouds, but still they did not say the world was going to get destroyed, just a change or a new start of some description.

The Mayan calendar does not suddenly end because they got bored correlating it or the fact it simply had to end at some point but because they did not want to predict anything after this date.

We are in turbulent times and the Mayans would have dated through it and beyond, but as we know...they didn't.  Science in conjunction believes  its because the stars will all line up, rendering the Mayan calendar as past its sell by date  and not the worlds end.

However the die hard doom and gloom merchants still state that disasters will occur on December 21st 2012 and the more noteworthy ones that are being bandied about at the moment are...

A very large and substantial meteor, asteroid or comet will smack into earth, rendering all life extinct as the Japanese Youtube video below depicts.  The chances of this happening are not impossible but rather remote, billions to 1 against.

The nomadic and mysterious Planet X Nibiru may be a world changing candidate as it is thought may arrive into our immediate solar system.  Planet X, a planet as large a Jupiter whizzing past the sun would indeed disrupt the natural solar balance and cause huge solar flares, that could indeed singe or at worse incinerate a large surface area of the world.  Except that it may not exist at all, as it has never been 100% proven. So not too much to worry about there.

Also there may occur what is known as a 'polar shift' as predicted by Albert Einstein and confirmed as possible by NASA in that the North and South poles could change direction and the world will change its tilt axis, this is also stipulated in the Chinese I Ching.  A polar shift can happen over weeks, days or suddenly over just an hour.  Earth, it is calculated, should also complete its 26,000 year wobble in 2012 and our Sun and the world will align with the center plane of the Milky Way, known as a galactic alignment. This too maybe enough to maybe cause some harm to our World, but not anywhere near destruction.  A lot of maybe maybe in there too folks !

The center of the Galaxy is 30,000 light years away, such a terrific distance that there would be negligible effects back on earth anyway.

A sudden and violent burst of gamma rays from a cosmic disturbance that instantly weakens the earths magnetic fields and penetrates our environment would kill all life on earth too, but this again is a very big maybe with lots of ifs and buts and maybe maybe.

The Mayans knew about the galactic alignment , the lining up of the sun with the center of the galaxy and this would have signified to them a new beginning.  As stated earlier this may simply be the reason why they did not want to continue with any more calendar findings.  The Hopi Indians also talk about a rebirth and regeneration rather than blatant destruction, so there maybe salvation for us after all.

Just to add a bit of fear...as one does...Scientist's however, do believe that the last time the world and sun was involved with a galactic alignment that many of earths animal species disappeared on land and sea.  Although this sub-annihilation cannot be accurately pinpointed to the exact year.

In the Bible, Christ stated to Mathew and the disciples that there would be signs for the end of times and all of these signs are now with us, more than ever before.  Please note:  "End of  times" this indicates the end of a system of things and not the end of the world, big difference, let us not misinterpret it and get the asteroids, volcanic eruptions and Atomic bombs out just yet !

There are certainly enough end of times signs with us today that could meet a crescendo in 2012, more than ever before in our history...

Natural:
Worldwide droughts, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, fires, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, global warming, famine, plagues, pestilence and disease.

Manmade:
Wars and rumours of wars, terrorism, religious fundamentalism, financial breakdown, crime, poverty, corruption, greed, high minded, selfishness, money worshipping, idolatry and Godlessness.

But these things have always plagued our history to a greater or lesser degree if you research it ! Maybe though, its just a case of enough is enough.

Obviously I hope that Nostradamus, The Mayans, The Hopi Indians, St Malachy, Mother Shipton, The Ancient Egyptian "Big book", The Chinese Oracle of the I Ching, The Holy Bible, The Ancient Roman Oracle Sybil, Merlin-Myrddin and a whole host of other ancient prophets, seers  and indeed scientists such as Albert Einstein, Terrence Mckenna, and Edgar Cayce all interpreted what is nothing more than a cosmic edifice and not world destruction.

To put into perspective, the Mayans entire lifespan of some 300 years centered around a massive pre-occupation with time, calendars, astronomy and astrology, all topics of which they were indeed experts.  The Mayans implicitly understood these topics more than top professionals do today, if the world was going to end they would have said so...plainly...but they didn't, so it won't.

It has to be said that the likes of Nostradamus, The Hopi Indians or biblical prophets St John, Isaiah and Jeremiah and all of the seers of times long past had some system, power, device or method of seeing future events with crystal clarity as if they were standing there watching events unfold before them, but none of them ever definitely stated the world would physically end.

The bible does say the heavens will disappear with a fervent heat and indeed it will do, but in about three billion years time hence, when the Sun expands into a super nova and encapsulates the earth with fire and heat in the 3 million degrees Fahrenheit  range.

To continue, this system, power or method has been lost to us over the passage of time or even deliberately destroyed like the ransacking and destruction of the Royal Library of Alexandria by the Romans in the early centuries.  The Royal Library of Alexandria was a gigantic library that contained millions of scrolls and books from scholars, seers and ancients and were burned when the library was set ablaze, the remaining books were used as a fuel to heat up the Roman baths.

The Romans despised anything that was not Roman and generally destroyed it...people included.   Today we have not one single iota of knowledge on how the ancients could see the future so precisely...so we tend to write it all off as rubbish.

We should not be too ignorant though...

...I would like to emphasize that the Mayans took their calendar very seriously, exactly and with no guesswork, it was worked out methodically and to the letter they were true experts in their field and nothing less.  But I don't believe that they were stating "the end is nigh" in fact they were not saying this at all.  They were merely saying that the planets were going to line up and we may take it that a disturbance may result, but not in the shape of meteorites, floods, fires, earth splitting in half volcanic quakes and lava  or anything else.

Almost all ancient prophesies of world wide tribulation, however,  have come to pass.  World War I and World War II with the rise of Hitler was predicted, so was the annihilation of Jerusalem by the Greeks, as was the rise of Alexander the Great, as was the rule of Ghengus Khan, as was the destruction of Babylon...the list is quite exhaustive and were all foretold decades or many hundreds of years before they happened.

So we can rest assured that something of a magnanimous proportion will occur, but not the end of the world, just a slight change of its circumstances cosmologically.

What if it is a major disaster though?...

...in that case I suppose that I would tend to go for the meteor or asteroid theory in that a substantial rock might smash into say the Pacific ocean, this would create a huge tsunami and would also fulfil the prediction of a preceding flood by Nostradamus, but still not the total destruction of the world, just a big bad wet day for some.

Don't forget that it will be a day either side of the 21st, as it will be the 21st in Australia, 20th in Europe and the UK and the 19th in USA because of the international timelines.

Global disasters, large scale death, doom and gloom aside, I state here that 2012 will pass us by with maybe a slight earthquake here and there, maybe a noticeable volcanic eruption and/or some big dam might burst but nothing more, so don't get caught up in all the doomsday hype, besides God would not permit world destruction and the total obliteration of his children and that's enough for me.

So carry on with your lives and don't worry, there will be no global destruction, just an interesting cosmological occurrence that may not even be noticed by the average man on the street.
