This in my humble opinion is the very best version of the Holy Bible, it is the Israeli Bible also known as The Masoretic Text and sometimes referred to as the Torah although the ' Torah ' itself is only the first five books of Moses :  -Genesis - Exodus - Leviticus - Numbers - Deuteronomy -

The translations are the closest " word to word " from the actual ancient Dead Sea Scrolls and haven't been altered or modernized to ' bring them up to date ' like most other versions of the Holy Book.

Like all Bibles in Hebrew...real Hebrew...this Bible opens and reads from right to left, so in effect the back cover is the front cover. 

This Bible only contains the Old Testament as written by the ancient prophets, thus there is none of the Gospels from Paul, Mathew, Mark Luke and John etc.

Even though I believe in the One Almighty God, I am not a devout Christian or indeed religious to any great degree, but I believe that every Westerner should pick up a copy any  copy of the Holy Bible and read it, after all it is the word of God and it is the greatest book ever written and the greatest *story ever told.

J.K. Rowling and 'Harry Potter' maybe one  of the top authors and best sellers in the world,  but even She will never surpass the sales and popularity of the Holy Bible.

*by "story" I am not inferring the Holy Bible is a yarn.

The Holy Scriptures within this Bible are divided on either side, on the left it is written in English and on the right it is written in Hebrew.  Scholars of Hebrew will find this Bible to be one of the best and authentic for study.

One of the ' treats' of this Bible are the color plates within it.  There are many of these color illustrations within this Holy Bible that have been reproduced and colorized from old engravings.

Below is depicted the young and brave David ( who was to become King David ) in a rather grisly scene, holding up the decapitated head of Goliath, after David slew him with a slingshot.  Goliath was probably the last of the really big Giant's with attitude to walk the Earth...thankfully !

The Old Testament is actually very blood thirsty with deaths, and murder throughout, with people being stabbed, crushed, chopped up, burned to death and slaughtered all the time.  Who needs to read a Murder mystery, Romance and Betrayal a Spy novel or War, Action and Adventure book?? when the Bible has it all !

Below is a scene from Judges 9:54.  Gripping stuff !

Below, Moses is depicted coming down from Mount Sinai with the Tablet that contained The Ten Commandments as given to Him by God.  Indeed, famous moments in Biblical history captured with  an antique eloquence.

As with most Holy Bible's the pages are very very thin and the print on the other side can be seen showing through its opaqueness.  With pages numbered to 1586 though, if they were any thicker then the book would be twice as thick and twice as heavy to carry around from one room to another.

Overall this Holy Bible is a real joy to read, I haven't however read all of it yet though but am wading through it bit at a time as there is so much to absorb.

If you are looking to purchase a nice new Holy Bible of the Old Testament then I recommend that this as the only one you need.

This Bible is from the Holy Land itself and henceforth has an even more appealing feel about it.  This Illustrated Holy Bible is great for anyone's home, to be read by young and old alike.  I purchased mine off E-bay.
