Best Dance Routine of All Time.
|
The Worlds best and most loved shortest dance routine of all time was one of a rather impromptu nature. It was in 1985 during an official Royal visit to Washington USA that the late Diana Princess of Wales danced with John Travolta of 'Saturday Night Fever' fame.
Diana who was a keen dancer and ballerina in here childhood days and also a big fan of 'Saturday Night Fever' made world headlines in 1985 when she showed off a footloose and fancy free dance routine with John Travolta.
John Travolta led Diana onto the dance floor at the White House after the first Lady Nancy Reagan who was then the wife of then President Ronald Reagan walked up to John Travolta and told him that Diana wanted to dance with him...an offer he couldn't refuse. John Travolta summoned up his courage and walked over to Diana and told her he agreed to have the dance, it was also a moment that Diana had always dreamed of and her dream came true. Later Travolta commented that he looked Diana in the eye and said " We're good, we can do this, lets dance" Travolta also commented later that " With Diana I was suddenly the only thing that mattered in America to her and I was reborn, I thought wow ! I matter to someone again...she was wonderful....I was on the cover of every newspaper and magazine in the world and someone as significant as Princess Diana reminded everyone of me"
Travolta recently stated "We were alone with the world watching. She started to dance kind of strongly. So I gently pressed her hand down and put my other hand on her waist. It was to say "let me lead because I know what I’m doing". She got the message and we went to town...we had the time of our lives. When it was over she bowed to me and I to her." It was with this event that Travolta say's thrust him back into stardom and saved his floundering career. However, if we look a little more realistically into this entire scenario we can start to see little discrepencies. In the life of a Royal person not much if anything at all is left to chance, this is due to meticulous planning, especially of such an event like the Royal visit to the White House in 1985. All of the guests are carefully selected and booked well in advance that included Film icon Clint Eastwood and The Jazz singer legend Neil Diamond to name but a few of the celebrities that attended. It could be mused that the Diana and Travolta dance was pre-arranged, weeks maybe even months in advance, probably at Diana's request of something she would love to do whilst in the States, rather than it being a coincidental and spontaneous 'thing' that just happened. John Travolta himself, may not have been aware of this pre-arrangement and believed that being invited to the White House at the same time as Princess Diana, was just another celebrity event. To believe that He thought that that there wasn't the chance of having a dance with Diana though, is a bit naive to say the least.
John Travolta already admitted that his career had diminished quite a lot, so why was he, an actor who was all but washed out originally invited to the White House? could it have been specifically to dance with Diana? When celebrities are invited to events such as these that attract a huge amount of limelight, it is usually done so on the basis that they are all at the top of their careers and not at the bottom of them, there is no sympathy in the world of the rich and famous. Its been said that if your on the up and up in showbiz then they all want to know you, but if your on the downward spiral then they tend to avoid you. Of course we may only surmise that the dance was pre-arranged, not wishing to maliciously debunk it. The truth may never be known as Diana took many many secrets to her death on August 1997. Either way it must be said the Travolta dance with Diana that just lasted a few minutes became the Worlds most loved dance routine and topped the likes of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in 1987's hit film 'Dirty Dancing' and even the legendary Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to become the number one most requested and watched dance routine of all time. Was any harm done by the dance? no of course not, did they both enjoy it? yes of course they did. So what's up? Well if it had been stated that Diana had wanted to dance with John Travolta and had requested that he attend the meeting instead of all the intrigue and media manipulation to cover up and protect who knows what, then this page would probably not exist. |
