Initially launched in June 2007 the Heineken 'Draughtkeg' is a modern marvel of the 21 century.  The Heineken Draught (on tap) Beer Keg is now taking the beer glass by storm! and is fast becoming a popular choice for draught beer at home, parties and BBQ's as not only is it a real and great draught beer that's convenient to dispense, it won't go flat once opened.

The 5 Ltr keg is 8.8 UK pints (over1 Imperial Gallon ) or 10.5 US pints (1.33 US Gallons) of delicious Heineken draught lager @  ALC 5% VOL

The C02 gas operated keg keeps the draught beer fresh for up to 30 days after opening because the actual beer inside the keg does not come into contact with the air when its poured.  The beer keg must be chilled in a fridge or other cold area for about 10 hours before its ready to drink at optimal flavor and also for ease of pouring.

If the beer keg is too warm then expect a  lot of froth / foam to dispense  giving a glass full of beer head !  Once the keg is chilled out though, you can pour the perfect pint, after setting up the beer tap...

...You do this by attaching the all important beer tap to onto the keg.  The beer tap assembly is supplied in a small plastic container attached to the the top of the keg.  The parts are pictured below...these parts are now pre assembled into two components for ease of assembly.

Attaching the beer tap is simply done by pressing the round plastic ring onto to keg...it will snap into place.  Pull the tap handle on the ring back then push in the plastic pipe assembly, vertically by lining it up with the space in the ring and carefully pushing down, also ensure that the spout is in line with the indentation on the top-side of the keg as seen in the picture below...

To dispense the excellence, hold a beer glass at about 45 degrees right underneath the spout and gently push the tap forwards.

“Get the head right and the rest will follow”

The picture below shows the tap pushed forwards.

The keg uses a "sympress" pressurized flow system that will dispense every last drop of the draught beer in the keg.

The further you push, the faster the beer flows out...it takes a bit of practice to get it right, so you don't end up with a mammoth head on your beer, which is why its best to buy several kegs to get used to it :))  invite your friends around and then after you are on your 2nd or 3rd keg you should have mastered it !

So to summarize:

Chill the keg for a few hours. You will  get some foamy head when you operate the tap but hold the glass at 45° and pour slowly. If you don't get it right, drink what you have just poured and try again.

I did  get a little it drunk whilst trying to perfect this.

The easiest part of the entire operation is indeed the drinking, I offer no advice on this except to say: party but don't drink and drive, don't spill any and drink responsibly.

These Heineken draught beer kegs retail for about $17.99 in the USA or around £14.00 in the UK ( at time of writing - 9th April 2009 ) which equates to about $1.71 per pint US or £1.59 pint UK.

For all of you green environmentalists out there, the steel keg is 100% recyclable including the small C02 gas cylinder inside. Also this keg uses less resources to produce than the 15 x 330ml cans that would be needed to offer the same amount of beer. These kegs are generally disposed of by the user in the appropriate recycling bin and not just dropped into the street or park as small cans usually can be.
