1:12 Scale Model 1978 Honda Goldwing GL1000

|
This impressive 1:12 scale model of the now classic 1978 Honda Goldwing GL1000 is made by Minichamps.com. The model is expensive at around 87 Euros but every bit of detail as seen on the real bike is also seen on this model. If it was big enough I would get on and ride it away! and if I were to set up a professional photographic studio diorama with a street background, I think I could kid you that this model was in fact a real bike ! The quality of these scale models with today's hi tech miniature engineering processes is truly awesome.
The view from a riders perspective shows how all of the little gauges have been accurately depicted. The petrol tank on the Honda Goldwing GL1000 was actually a compartment for storage, whilst the petrol tanks were situated either side, underneath the saddle. Minichamps.com have also
re-created the actual color scheme of this bike with a lovely metallic turquoise
blue finish to it complete with all the coach-line work on the "tank" This model is a fantastic rendition of a Honda Goldwing GL1000 and all attention to detail has been carefully built into it. With the use of die-cast metal as well as plastic parts it has some weight to it unlike just a normal plastic model would have, so it sits reasonably well on my table and wont fall over too easily when I am dusting it off . I use a brand new 20mm wide paint brush to dust these models down so not to break any of the delicate foot rests or mirrors off. This is quite good as the model is only about 190mm long, so its quite small but even so, none of the bikes detail has been omitted. The saddle is even padded too and has a leather feel to it, all of the stitching has been simulated on to it as well...a nice touch there by minichamps.com
The engine detail is fabulous, with every nut and bolt depicted, these models made by minichamps.com are true wonders of miniature modeling and the use of high technology to miniaturize a bike like this is amazing. A model like this about 20 years ago would easily have cost a few hundred Dollars. I have to say that Photographs don't really do any justice, you need to see a model like this in real life to really appreciate the workmanship and to imagine the manufacturing process that was used to create it. I hope that you can get a good idea from these images though. This model should be displayed in a glass case to protect it from the dust that seams to home in on it !
The Honda Goldwing GL1000 is a propshaft drive motorcycle as opposed to a chain as found on the majority of bikes. All of the working pivots and suspension have been accurately modeled on this bike. Its good to see how all this stuff actually works and by pressing the rear wheel up and down I can see how the shaft pivots from the gear box. Like I have said earlier I could almost jump on and ride it off !
The Honda GoldWing GL1000 was a big four cylinder water cooled engine and was an instant classic when it first appeared in 1978. The photo above is not that brilliant but I hope it shows off some of the engine detail in a better perspective. The minichamps.com 1:12 scale model of the Honda GoldWing GL1000 is another worthy one to add to your miniature bike collection...its even nice on its own if you don't collect them but would just like one model.
