Orange County Choppers

This is a 1:10 scale model of an Orange County Chopper by Von Dutch. These bikes, the real ones that is, are custom made in Orange County California USA for the discerning motorcyclist who has a wish to cruise in ultimate style on an ultimate chopper.
These choppers are hand built from the ground up and this 1:10 scale model is an accurate representation of the fantastic engineering work that these guys carry out. This model is nearly all made from metal with only a few plastic parts, so it weighs quite heavy and is easily damaged if you knock it over by accident, because of the weight of it...about ½Lb. The stand is made of metal and needs to be to support the weight. It is very well made, and there are many working parts, for example: The gear lever and brake levers on the handle bars work, the gear selector works, the belt drives the rear wheel, the seat is sprung and the front suspension works.
This particular model is a chopper that was custom built by Von Dutch in real life and somewhere this bike is cruising the streets for real. The gear changer moves to the touch, simulating a gear change There is no part of the original bike that the custom was made from left as it left the factory. I estimate that at one time the bike was probably a Harley Davidson, maybe a super dyna-glide. The engine or at least the cylinder block and pistons are probably the only part that's left off original the bike. This is bike customization to the extreme, talk about "Pimp my Ride" well this has to be the ultimate in "Pimp my Bike" The rubber belt drive engages the rear wheel sprocket and will turn the wheel around when the bike is pushed forwards...or backwards.
As chopper bikes go, this has to be the best one ever devised, in my humble opinion anyway as there arte 100's of different styles of chopper out there and many more different styles of Von Dutch designs, they are not all the same and I have another page on another Von Dutch Chopper that you may like to see as well...follow the links at bottom of page. These models are not that easy to find so I cannot offer or recommend where to get one from. I sort of "landed" on this model whilst surfing the internet and bought it there and then....a bit later at the same site...the model was no longer available. Below is a nice close up of all the work that has gone into creating the realism of the front disc brake and custom suspension set up, along with all the cables.
I tend to only go after very nice or very unique specimens now as new models keep appearing all the time, its because they are popular items to collect and model manufacturers can see this niche in the market and are happy to fill it. Model bike collecting is fun because they are rather thin in dimension you can actually display quite a few together on a shelf or windowsill or just sitting on your table next to your PC. Below: Matt black pipes, in real life they would be either sprayed up with high temperature paint or anodized. hope you enjoyed this page, please check out some more of my pages. |
