This is a webpage about professional car window tinting a.k.a black glass, privacy glass, or one way glass and some of the reasons why you might want to have this done to your vehicle. There are many positive reasons for having your vehicles windows tinted and these include combating 99% of harmful UV rays emitted from the sun. These solar rays are magnified by glass and may discolor and fade a cars interior and also may cause sun burn irritation to a greater or lesser degree. With the depleting ozone layer this is now more of a threat than ever before.
Windows tints also reduce the suns glare coming in from the side or rear windows and have a polarizing effect. This also reduces the effects that can cause migraines and headaches. My front side windows are also tinted, just over the legal limit...still safe and hardly detectable from the inside but it reduces the glare I get in my door mirrors of that annoying early morning sunlight. Window tints also retain a cars natural cool interior temperature better and reflect the suns heat back, so that the "greenhouse effect" as depicted below...
...is vastly reduced in the car...
Windows tints actually do keep the interior of a car cool in the summer, not a gimmick but a fact. There is also the security aspect of window tints in that having 95% dark, limo black window tints on the rear side and rear windows keeps inquisitive eyes out, specially if you accidentally leave anything of value on the seats, rear parcel shelf or just left in your hatchbacks trunk. Parents will agree too, that their kids love sitting in the back of a car with the very dark limo black glass effect. Kids are more inclined to actually be quiet and peer out of the windows more, knowing that they can't be seen from the outside...it gives a new sense of fun when travelling in Mom or Dads car.
I would also state that the atmosphere in the car has changed, it seams quieter and more tranquil, this is probably psychosomatic but it is definitely different, hard to explain but its there...whatever it is. The cool looks of window tints are in effect giving your car a subtle makeover, the car has a more smooth and chilled-out appeal to it.
The tints that are made in the USA by SunTek and are reportedly the best tints you can have applied to your car. Tints are graded by the amount of light they stop entering a car. 95%, 75%, 50% etc. You cannot have the windshield tinted at all and your front side windows cannot have very dark tints. In the UK (where I have a lot of web viewers) the legal limit is about 30% of light stopped allowing 70% of light through. You can go a bit darker without getting "pulled" but keep it sensible.
When looking from the inside out of course, it looks as though there is only a very light tint. This is because tinted glass works one way...dark from the outside - clear and light from the inside. Its also a myth that tints make driving at night dangerous, because as already stipulated...although its a bit darker inside the car the effect only really works when looking in. Night driving with tints is fine if it wasn't then millions upon millions of drivers worldwide would not drive at night...but do. QED ! Quod Erat Demonstrandum.
Go on...give your car sunglasses!
