The Earth weighs  6,588,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons. That's 6,588 trillion.. er 6,588 Million Bi....er  6,588 Zillion...er  6,588 Billion Bil...er.... Its a lot.

The pressure at the centre of the Earth is 27,000 tons per square inch. Shares in trouser press manufacturers are reported to be at an all time low !

Earth's interior temperature increases by 1 degree every 60 feet down. Does this count under water too ??

Earth is  4.5 billion years old. It travels through space at 64,000 miles per hour. and has never been issued a speeding ticket.

Earth is getting slightly heavier each day as tons of space dust and little meteorites land each hour. I personally think that it should watch its waistline.

 If the Earth was flat and devoid of any land mass the Ocean would be two miles high over the entire surface.  The Earth surface is at present  75% water. Not a very nice present, I want a new PC.

If Earth was the size  a table tennis ball, the Sun would measure 12 feet in diameter. On the same scale, the Earth would orbit the Sun at a distance of 1,325 feet. Anyone for a game of tennis, oops or is that our planet I've just walloped??

If Earth was the size of an apple, the atmospheric layer would be no thicker than its skin. When Sir Isaac Newton heard this...his world fell in !

THE MOON

The Moon is 240,000 miles away from Earth and is reputedly made of green cheese.

The Moon is exactly 400 times smaller than the sun and 400 times nearer, hence the perfect match during an eclipse, and I mean  exactly !!  makes you think doesn't it !

Light from the moon takes a second and a half to reach Earth. whether you want it to or not.

The gold-plated 33-rpm record "Camelot" was left behind on the moon by the Apollo astronauts. No record player was left though ????

 On Earth an Astronauts spacesuit  weighs 180 pounds and on the Moon it weighs 30 pounds. I would get my money back if I were them, what a swindle

The temperature on the Moon reaches 243 degrees Fahrenheit at midday on the lunar equator. During the night, the temperature drops drastically to minus 261 degrees Fahrenheit. So don't forget to pack your winter woolies.

THE SUN

The Sun is colossal. Yes it is, honest,  It contains 99 percent of the total mass of the solar system. More than one million Earths would be required to equal its volume. I think that one is enough in that case thank you.

The Sun emits a stream of electrically-charged particles which is known as the solar wind. Every second, the Sun transmits more than a million tons of material into the solar wind. maybe its not happy with it or something ?

Pluto and Earth to scale

The Sun is 3 million miles more closer to the earth during the winter than it is during the summer ? yeah I guessed it would be some how !!

The Sun burns 170,000,000 tons of matter every second, 4,000,000 tons of this is Hydrogen....that's the remainder that wasn't turned into helium like the rest was. It must  feel  neglected !

Light leaves the Sun at the rate of 186,282 miles every second and takes Eight minutes to reach Earth. I don't mind waiting eight minutes !

The Sun emits giant flames called prominences that shoot out 310,000 miles into space. So you will need to duck as you go underneath, mind the step !

The Sun is 330,330 times larger than Earth. What a Show off !!

The Sun's heat is so fantastic that if a pin-head could be heated to the same temperature as the centre of the sun then it would burn everything within a sixty mile radius. So it might be best to live 61 miles away from any pinheads.

Neptune and Earth to scale

An area of the Sun's surface the size of a postage stamp shines with the power of 1,500,000 candles. or 1 WWII search light. There, doesn't sound so grand now.

 The  Sun isn't an exact sphere it is flattened slightly by its own gravity.... er like most other planets I think.

 The Sun's total lifetime is 11 billion years. Half the time has passed. And we missed it !

The realisation as to why the Sun actually shines was not fully understood until the 1930's when Carl Von Weizsacker and Hans Beth deduced that it was a nuclear-fusion reaction. and Not caused by a chip pan that caught fire.

 The sun takes 225 million years to revolve once around the center of the Milky Way. This  is known as a cosmic year.  I'm Surprised it hasn't curdled in all that time.
