Venus and Earth to scale

Venus and the Earth are almost the same size, but Venus looks so much better, in fact she's beautiful.

Pluto is the smallest planet in our Solar System. Its so far out though, nobody really notices. Carry on Pluto, your alright mate !

Jupiter is just a plain show off  being over eleven times bigger than Earth.

Also at the center of the giant planet Jupiter, the pressure is only three times as great as the earth. Trouser press manufacturers  shares increase !!

At the poles, on the planet Uranus  daylight  lasts for 42 Earth years. Its got a funny name too hasn't it !!

Jupiter is big enough to contain all of the planets in our solar system,

so why do we need them all I wonder ??.

The surface of Neptune's largest moon Triton, is very cold , Bbbrrrrr, it  has a temperature of minus 391 degrees Fahrenheit, only 69 degrees Fahrenheit above absolute zero. Sales of ice cream have plummeted.

Wind speeds can reach 1,100 mph on the  Saturn Equator. they can reach pretty quick in my house after an Indian Curry Vindaloo as well.

STARS

Neutron stars are the collapsed and super compressed cores of  stars. One would squeeze  the mass of our Sun into a 15 mile diameter ball.

A piece of a Neutron star the size of a  sugar cube would weigh 110 million tons. Two lumps in mine please !

The surface temperature of a neutron star is  1,900,000 degrees Fahrenheit. You may need to wear some oven gloves.

The force of gravity on a neutron star is at an extreme magnitude because of its fantastic density. Your weight on a neutron star would be 10,000 million and one times greater than on Earth. This of course is where pancakes come from.

In fact a neutron stars  gravity  would crush a house brick to the thickness of two atoms. hence the first housing estate to be built on a neutron star will be called   " The Flatlands" .

In 5 Billion years When our sun has burned all of its fuel it will expand into a Red Giant and burn up our solar system. There is no chance of a reprieve either.

Then after a million years or so it will shrink into its core and become a sneazy, grumpy, sleepy, dopey, happy, bashful,White Dwarf.

THE UNIVERSE

Our Galaxy contains over 250 billion stars, It is estimated by astronomers that there are 100 billion other galaxies in the universe. But we must be the only planet with life on it, yawn.

The universe is estimated to be about 15,000 million years old. and still hasn't got a beard.

Apart from the Sun, the nearest star is Proxima Centuri and if you were to drive there in a car traveling at 60 mph it would take  50 million years to get there !  It might be quicker to take the tube.

If you drove the same car from Earth this time a little faster at 100 mph, it would take about 221,000 million years to reach the centre of our Milky Way. Time to get another car I think.

And if you drove a car at 250 miles an hour,  I would make you a nice offer for it.

The star Antares is 60,000 times larger than our Sun. That's pretty big there folks !!

The Tarantula Nebula contains a huge star that is 350 millions times the mass of Earth.   Notice ..no spider gag associated with this one...I'm not that  corny !!

Mars and Earth to scale

"No place like home ! "

It would take you 3,000 years to count all of the stars in our galaxy at the rate of 1 count per second. So can you count a little faster please, I haven't got all day !

  a wee comet

In 1937, the tiny asteroid Hermes passed very close to Earth, at a distance of less than twice that of the moon.

The heaviest known meteorite to fall to Earth is called "The Hoba West meteorite", it lies where it fell in Africa. Weighing about 60 tons. Hmm another direct hit. one day....one day.

The NASA Space Shuttles  contain over 34,000 separate heat shielding tiles, each tile is individually and specifically cut for its own location. They  dissipate heat so well that the corners of the tiles heated to 2,325 degrees F (1,275 degrees C) can be held in the bare hand. I wonder who did this to prove it ??
