The Bugatti Veyron was once the worlds fastest production car, blistering down the street at 253 mph but this is no longer the case as the SSC Ultimate Aero TT topped out at just over 257 mph.  In September 2007, on a closed  stretch of  Washington State highway, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT driven by 71 year old Rick Doria notched a top speed of 257.11 mph and 254.55 mph on its return run.  These figures are then offset by highest and lowest to get the average speed and 255.83 mph was the outstanding result.  This now voids the current official world record held by the Koenigsegg CCR at 242 mph by 11.83 mph and the Bugatti Veyron's unofficial speed of 253 mph by 3.11 mph. The all American SSC Ultimate Aero TT from drawing-board to long straight open road took 7 years to accomplish and nobody ever asks if it was worth it, because they haven't got enough breath to speak, the SSC just took it away.  The Bugatti Veyron is priced at over a million dollars at $1,360,000 whilst the SSC settles in at $650,000, not often you get $710,000 change after buying a car that's faster than the fastest ! Bye bye Bugatti ! The SSC isn't just lightning fast, it also has some practical driving features that you can nod your head at, air conditioning, electric windows, powered mirrors, tilt-steering, dashboard-controlled front air lift for its road-hugging  4 inches ground clearance.  Other nice features include 260 mph Speedometer (essential ), 8000-rpm rev counter, sequential shift lights, horsepower, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level and volt gauges.  Not bad when you consider that in most Ferrari's you are lucky to get carpets and a door pull.  Along with an oasis of a petrol tank at 32 US Gallons giving a range of 600 drive easy miles.  The 6.3 litre V8 TT (twin-turbo) engine loves horses, well it must do, as it has 1183 of them, all running wild through a 6 speed manual high torque gear box.   0 to 60 mph is a grit your teeth and hold on 2.7 seconds and it will breeze the  ¼ mile in 9.9 seconds at 144mph (cruising speed !!) all on its standard tires that are: Front: 235/35 on 19in rims. Rear: 335/30 on 20in rims You don't want to be color blind either as the SSC comes in 12 delicious color's and 5 different interior color's.  The car is only a two seater though, so there is no need to worry about pleasing 4 people over the color scheme at the same time ! There is news that the SSC has had a slight upgrade for 2009 in that the engines stable of horses is to be increased to 1287, I mean where do you keep them all....under the bonnet of course !  1287 horse power is cool but what is cooler is the intention of the SSC to disintegrate the 270 mph barrier.
