LIEBHERR T282B
|
The T 282 B is one the world's biggest diesel-electric truck on two axles and six wheels, it is also one of the biggest AC drive trucks.
"The mighty dimensions
alone made the T 282 B mining truck, on show to the public for the first time at
the 2004 ‘Bauma’, a crowd-puller on the Liebherr stand. This new
diesel-electric mining truck puts all other transport vehicles used in opencast
mining in the shade. Its gigantic dimensions – 7.4 m high, 8.8 m wide and 14.5
m long – make it the largest two-axle mining truck in the world.
However, it is not just its size that has the
T 282 B so sought-after by mine operators around the world after a year of field
tests; of greater importance still are its "internal values". More
than 200 improvements in many areas have been incorporated into this successor
to the T 282, which itself was first presented in 1999. Of particular
significance are the increase in payload from 327 to 363 metric tones ( 400
tons ) and a 35% more powerful engine. The T 282 B now has access to 2,721 kW
(3,650 hp) from the world's most powerful commercial-vehicle engine.

The result of all these innovations is itself
a further, decisive superlative: the T 282 B is set to make its mark in opencast
mining with the lowest operating costs per loaded tonne. It has a maximum travel
speed of 64 km/h, while its radial, small low aspect-ratio tyres and
nitrogen-oil suspension offer a high level of ride comfort in the toughest
operating areas" The cost to buy is still 3 Million Dollars. BELAZ 75600 The BeLAZ 75600 is made in
BelaRusia and is a very strong competitor for the worlds largest mining truck Below: " Those tyres would

The Terex Titan......The
Worlds Biggest Truck. The Terex Titan was
manufactured by General Motors of Canada, and is to date the worlds largest
tandem axle truck ever built. Back in 1978 Kaiser Resources brought the truck to
Sparwood from California with the intention of its use in the mine located
there. The Terex Titan was to large to
be moved by road so it arrived by train on 8 flatbed cars. Then it was
re-assembled by the side of highway 3 and driven to the mine.
The Terex Titan is powered a 16
cylinder locomotive engine and delivers 3300 horse power. The engine was built
by General electrics Electromotive division. It was combined with a huge
generator to deliver power to 4 traction engines located on the real wheels.
this generator alone has enough power to supply 250 homes with all the
electricity they could need.
It is no longer used
because of the atrocious expenditure to keep it running. The engines sump for example is filled with 278 imperial gallons of
oil (1262 liters) that would need to be changed on a regular and often basis.
Each of the ten 12-foot,
7,800-pound Goodyear tyres that the Terex Titan uses contains about 3,800 pounds
of natural rubber or the life of 380 rubber trees. The tyres each contain 580
miles of nylon cord, 12 miles of steel bead wire and one-ton of carbon black and
other chemicals. These tyres could produce 300 normal size car tyres or enough
rubber for more than four Goodyear blimps.

It takes exactly 28 seconds to raise the dumper and 30 seconds to lower it. The front of the truck is equipped with hydrostatic steering
Painting by Eric C Orelemann. The Terex Titan's is capable of parking 2 Greyhound buses and 2 pick-up trucks inside its dumper. This truck is a tourist attraction in Sparwood, British Columbia, Canada.
The Terex Titan has also been made into a model, but at $700 its still keeping the figures big ! |
